The Russian Ministry of Justice accused the Moscow Times of publishing inaccurate information.

The Moscow Times, an English- and Russian-language online newspaper, has recently been labeled as a "foreign agent" by the Russian Justice Ministry, as reported by the newspaper itself.

This designation entails certain requirements, including the necessity for media outlets and journalists to provide disclaimers for their published materials.

Additionally, it imposes strict regulations regarding financial reporting and self-disclosure.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the Moscow Times has been accused of publishing misleading information about decisions made by authorities, which negatively portrays Russia. However, the newspaper has argued that this classification has often been misused to target independent journalists, activists, and non-governmental organizations.

In a related development, the Russian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has already blocked access to the Moscow Times website within the country.
