Ford is set to introduce a new off-road version of the Mustang, but it won't be based on the traditional gasoline-powered model. Instead, it will draw inspiration from the electric Mach-E and will be known as the Mach-E Rally.
The unveiling of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where Ford also announced plans to produce the Mach-E Rally electric SUV. While specific details regarding the off-road enhancements, powertrain, and pricing remain undisclosed, Ford has shared images of the camouflaged Mach-E rally car, providing a glimpse into some of its distinctive features.
Off-road design
From these visuals, it can be inferred that the SUV sports car will draw inspiration from rally racing. The redesigned front section showcases circular fog lights integrated into a grille-like panel, while a red recovery hook is visible on the front bumper.
The sidewall images reveal lighter body garnish along the bottom of the Mach-E and around the rims, which sport off-road and terrain-pattern tires unlike any other Mach-E model. At the rear, a prominent spoiler is attached to the rear cover, reminiscent of Ford's all-wheel-drive Focus RS hatchback.
Additionally, the Mustang Mach-E Rally appears to offer greater ground clearance compared to its road-focused counterparts. The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally will make its racing debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with former world rally champion Ott Tanak, the current driver of the Ford M-Sport Puma Hybrid Rally Team, behind the wheel.
While there is still much to learn about the production version, more information is expected to be revealed before orders open in Europe and the US later this year. Currently, the most powerful models in the Mach-E lineup are the Mach-E GT and GT Performance Mustangs, equipped with two electric motors producing 480 horsepower.
Ford Mustang Mach E Rally price
The 2023 versions of these models start at $61,795 and $66,795, respectively.
