The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed lower today, Friday, with Microsoft's share falling.
Stocks in the United States closed lower at the end of trading on Friday, as losses were recorded in the technology, consumer services and financial sectors, which led the indices down.
At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.32%, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell by 0.37% and the Nasdaq fell by 0.68%.
Among the leading stocks today in the Dow Jones Industrial Average was Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ: WBA), which rose by 2.03%, or 0.65 points, and reached 32.67 at the close. On the other hand, Intel Group (NASDAQ:INTC) added 1.54% or 0.55 points to end at 36.37, while Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 1.28% or 2.90 points to 229.07 by the end of the session.
As for the worst performer at the end of the day's trading, shares of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) closed down by 1.74%, or 1.62 points, to trade at 91.32 levels at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 1.66%, or 5.77 points, to end at 342.33, and United Health Group Inc (NYSE:UNH) closed down 1.61%, or 7.50 points, to 458.39.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Standard & Poor's 500 index was recorded by Bull Corp (NYSE: BALL), which rose by 7.27% at a price of 58.45. Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW) also continued its rise by 5.94% and closed at levels 35.85, and DISH Network Corp (NASDAQ: DISH) rose by 3.69% and ended its trading at a price of 6.47.
Among the stocks that underperformed today were Alexandria Real Estate Equities (NYSE:ARE), which fell by 4.70%, closing at a price of 115.45, Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM), which lost 3.97% to a price of 445.42, and Epam. Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM), which weakened by 3.62% and closed at 219.59 on the stock exchange.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Nasdaq index was recorded by Scworx Corp (NASDAQ: WORX), which rose by 75.67% at a price of 0.66. Oncorus (NASDAQ: ONCR) also continued its rise at 69.85% and closed at 0.13 levels. Likewise, Bitdeer Technologies Group (NASDAQ: BTDR) stock rose by 50.93% and ended its trading at a price of 11.41.
Among the stocks with the weakest performance today, we mention Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) stock, which fell by 55.25% and closed its session at a price of 2.60, Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI) stock, which lost 43.68% at a price of 1.07, and a share of Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI). Universe Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:UPC), which weakened by 37.35% and closed at 0.52 in the day's session on the stock exchange.
The number of declining shares exceeded the number of shares that closed higher on the New York Stock Exchange with 1754 compared to 1181, while 89 remained unchanged. As for the Nasdaq stock exchange, 2121 of the stocks declined and 1428 strengthened their position, while 123 of the stocks maintained their value.
Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) stock fell to an all-time low, losing 55.25%, or 3.21 points, at a price of 2.60. Shares in Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI) fell to an all-time low, losing 43.68%, or 0.83 points, at a price of 1.07.
500 Volatility Index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 Index, traded 6.62% lower and closed at 13.54, by hitting a 3-year record high.
Gold futures for August delivery fell 0.06%, or 1.25%, and closed at $1,969.45 an ounce. As for the trading of other commodities, WTI crude oil futures contracts for July delivery rose 1.47%, or 1.04 points, and reached a price of $71.66 per barrel, while the August contract for Brent oil contracts increased by 1.14%, or 0.86 points, and closed at $76.53 per barrel.
The EUR/USD pair maintained its stability by 0.05%, and traded at 1.09 levels, while the USD/JPY pair continued its rise by 1.13%, reaching 141.86 levels.
Dollar index futures traded up by 0.16% at 101.88.
