Uber will launch a new service to enhance rider safety in Egypt

Acting Head of Consumer Protection and CEO Dr. Ahmed Samir Farag confirmed Uber's commitment to activate the device's instructions on launching a new feature in its electronic application that gives consumers more security.

He can seek help if he or she is in any situation that may result in insecurity during the journey.

"The launch of this feature came in the light of the device's call for the company to examine a complaint from a customer from Uber after it was posted on Facebook, which was damaged by poor service provided to it and put it at risk," Farag said in a statement Thursday.

He added that the company was then obliged to refund the value of the flights deducted from the credit card of the complainant, and to lift the suspension that was made on its account on the application as a result of the complaint against the driver.

Farag said Uber has complied with the device's instructions and is currently testing the "call back" feature, which provides users with a means of communicating through the app after the end of trips with Uber's safety support team 24/7, in case they encounter any situation that may lead to insecurity during the trip.

He explained that Uber was stressed the need to take into account the ease of using the new feature by consumers so that access to that feature (call back) from the section (review of the trip and fees), and once the user requests a call call and registers a number to call him and a short description of the situation threatened for safety, the user receives a call within minutes by a specialist from the safety support team to help him deal with the problem, 24 hours a day.

Farag stressed the continued efforts of the authority to safeguard and protect the rights of consumers, strengthen the role of the agency in the field of law enforcement and maintain the health and safety of consumers and establish the necessary rules and standards to safeguard the rights of consumers and control markets to benefit the national economy of the country.
