An Intel spokesman said today, Tuesday, that his company has obtained licenses from the US authorities to continue supplying certain products to Huawei Technologies.
With relations between the United States and China deteriorating to their lowest levels in decades, Washington urged governments around the world to stop doing business with Huawei, saying the Chinese telecoms giantwas passing data to the Chinese government for espionage.
From September 15, new restrictions banned US companies from providing services or products to Huawei.
This week, the state-backed China Securities Journal reported that Intel had received a permit to supply Huawei.
And last week, the Chinese international semiconductor maker said it had requested a permit to continue serving Huawei.
The company uses equipment from the United States to manufacture chips for Huawei and other companies.
Huawei, which was founded in 1987 by an engineer who was serving in the Chinese army, denies that it is spying for Beijing, stressing that the United States is trying to discredit it for its superiority over Western companies in the fifth generation technology.
